FAQs

ABI spreaders aren’t just for horse manure: we spread it all! ABI’s muck spreaders handle all kinds of animal manure and compost at any phase of decomposition.

Yes. Any spreader used on pastures or paddocks requires advanced features that shred, control flow, and evenly spread on the ground. ABI spreaders do all that and more, fitting perfectly into your rotational grazing or pasture rotation routine. One of the best things you can do is spread a light shredded and pulverized manure application to “resting” pastures or paddocks. Do this early on long sunny and dry days to allow it to dry quickly. Allow the pasture area to “rest” for at least a couple of weeks before allowing livestock to graze again, reducing the possibility of parasite exposure.

The duration of time a pasture should rest after the last application depends on the local environment. Hot and moist areas and seasons should “extend” resting periods. A rotational grazing routine provides the best opportunity to spread on recently “rested” portions of pasture land. An eco-balanced pasture or paddock reduces parasites, increases vegetation growth, increases rotation rates, and reduces odor and flies around the farm. ABI’s optional “Fines” or “Pasture” pan is required. For the ultimate in paddock health, spread composted manure.

We always recommend shredding before you spread, avoiding spreading on or near wet areas, and giving your pasture time to rest. For more details and our thoughts on spreading stall picked or composted, when to spread, and how to best spread, check out our Animal Manure Management Guidebook.

Ground driven spreaders are easy to use, work on a variety of towing vehicles, and have enhanced safety features. They’re best for small hobby farms, show stock owners, and small ranchers.

PTO driven spreaders tackle large projects. They’re harder to operate, but offer more capacity and capability for skilled operators.

Learn more about Ground Driven vs. PTO spreaders.

The size that’s best for you depends on everything from your spreading frequency to how much your livestock produces.

Our Better Way:

Features

ABI spreaders are fully-welded with COR-TEN steel to be tank-tough through and through. Our extremely thick COR-TEN steel provides tremendous longevity without the ridiculous expense of stainless steel. So yes, our spreaders aren’t shiny like your kitchen appliances for good reason: stainless steel is not as structurally sound as COR-TEN. Below we have detailed out why our spreaders are built to outlast the barn; and the competition.

4-Speed Variable Flow Control

Create an Eco-Balanced Pasture The 4-Speed Application Flow Control enables you to control the flow and volume of manure your muck spreader applies to the ground. Using the spreader’s front manual levers, adjust the rate of manure fed to the beater bars via the apron web between four different speeds to speed up or slow down your spreading. By controlling the output of manure, users can choose to empty their manure as fast as possible or slowly apply manure to maximize fertilization to specific areas in the pasture. Variable flow control also helps you adjust your mini manure spreader to pulverize a broader range of manure types, consistencies, bedding materials, and stages of decomposition without causing damage to your ground driven manure spreader. Improve the eco-balance and growth of your pasture with controlled applications of manure from your ABI 25ft³ manure spreader.

Inline Shredding System

Shred Before You Spread What makes ABI’s mini manure spreader unique is how its 2-stage inline shred and spread system can pulverize manure into fine shreds to evenly spread fertilizer over the ground. The system includes two beater bars fitted with 32 blades to ensure every bit of manure is thoroughly shredded. Once the manure is fed through the beater bars, the manure fines are evenly distributed in a fine layer over the ground via eight spreading paddles on the back of your dung spreader. By finely shredding manure before you spread it, more manure is exposed to the sun’s UV rays, helping it break down faster to encourage better pasture growth and reduce the risk of colic, odors, or pests from affecting your animals.

Protective Box Liner

An Industrial-Grade Seal to Guard Your Steel Each ABI mini manure spreader box comes standard with an industrial-grade box liner to create a better seal against manure leakage. Our engineers use a special epoxy liner to coat the inside of the mini spreader box, giving it an impermeable and smooth protective seal that can resist severe corrosion or abrasion from urine-filled manure. Since epoxy liners are often used to protect underground sewage tanks and pipelines, you operate your lawn tractor manure spreader with ease knowing the spreader box is secured from corrosion due its heavy-duty protective liner.

Lifetime Poly-Lumber Flooring

For Maximum Manure Loading & Towing The bottom flooring of our mini manure spreaders is made of a premium tongue-and-groove polyvinyl lumber. The spreader’s poly-lumber flooring is extremely thick to ensure your muck spreader can support heavy manure loads, allowing you to load your attachment up to maximum capacity. Better yet, the tongue-and-groove construction of the poly-boards prevents excessive warping, wear, or damage to the apron web. While our poly-lumber flooring is built to last long, ABI also offers a limited lifetime flooring warranty to support customers.

Stainless Steel Apron Web

Rust-Resistant Chains and Slats Assembled using interlocking chains and slats, the apron web ensures your mini manure spreader releases a stable, consistent rate of fertilizer at your desired speed. Better yet, the chains and slats are made from high-quality stainless steel, making the web chemically resistant to corrosion from urine-laced manure. When operating your spreader, the apron web is driven via the advanced ground drive system from the left wheel, causing it to move and push manure towards the back. With the right wheel running the beater bars, the apron web pushes manure out the back, ensuring everything is finely shredded and spread over the soil as you tow.

Commercial-Grade Coating

Protect Components from Extreme Corrosion All components on our mini manure spreaders get a premium 2-ply commercial-grade coating for additional protection against corrosion. After being sand-blasted to ensure perfect adhesion of the paint, the components are coated in a black gloss acrylic urethane paint (PPG AUE-370) that’s twice as thick as Rust-Oleum which can be easily repaired or touched up during future maintenance. What’s unique about this special finish is how it makes your mini manure spreader impermeable to moisture or animal urine from manure, eliminating the risk of rust forming underneath the finish layer and damaging your spreader.

Advanced Ground Drive System

Drive Power to Multiple Components ABI utilizes an advanced ground drive system to provide power to our mini manure spreaders. The ground drive system works by connecting the wheels of the muck spreader to operate and drive power to specific components. The right wheel drives the beater bars system that shreds and spreads manure, while the left wheel drives the apron chain in the spreader box which pushes manure towards the beaters and out of the spreader. What’s more, the wheels are designed to move in unison, keeping the components at compatible operating speeds while also maximizing traction for your dung spreader. From tight turns on rough pastures to wet or icy ground, this advanced ground drive system gives you the power to properly spread wherever and whenever you need it.

Swing-Away Jack with Wheel Dolly

Quick & Easy Hookup to Small Tow Vehicles The swing-away jack crank makes it easy for operators to hookup or detach an ABI mini manure spreader to a lawn tractor or other small tow vehicle. It also comes with a wheel dolly that can be used to manually maneuver the attachment into a garage, tool shed, barn, or other tight spaces for storage. If your barn lacks pass-through aisles, the swing-away jack with wheel dolly enables you to manually push your dung spreader between paddocks so you can conveniently muck manure directly from the stall to the spreader.

Superior-Quality Craftsmanship & Components

Built in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, by highly skilled craftsmen with decades of small manure spreader building experience, these compact manure spreaders are crafted for daily farm-use conditions and made of the most durable components we know of. Materials such as grade-5 bolts, serviceable greaseable bearings, oil-impregnated bronze bushings, heavy-duty size 60 roller chain (nearly 1″ wide), stainless steel T-Rod apron chain, and hardened sprockets ensure longevity. You can judge a ground driven manure spreader’s materials and components quality by its overall unit weight; the heavier, the better. The ABI compact manure spreader weighs nearly 1/3 more than equivalently sized competitors’ small manure spreaders. Now that is tangible quality you can feel!

Options

Manual End Gate & Shield

Block Off Flying Debris To protect operators and equipment from flying manure, add on the optional manual end gate and shield. By closing off the back of the mini manure spreader, the end gate acts as a shield to block you and your tow vehicle from being covered in flying manure or debris leftover in the spreader box. An additional benefit to closing the back of your lawn tractor manure spreader is the end gate prevents manure from clogging the beater bars during loading, allowing you to fill your spreader to maximum capacity without issue.

Pasture/ Fines/ Litter Pan

Keep Clumps Out of Your Pasture

Using the optional fines pan, be sure to shred every bit of manure in your mini manure spreader and prevent stray clumps from hitting the ground. Attached directly behind the spreader, the fines pan catches and brings any fallen clumps of manure back into the beaters to be finely shredded. Including a fines pan is especially useful for catching smaller litter produced by poultry. The optional pan also features a release for easy cleaning or replacement.

Reviews

Dorothy Webb

Extremely Happy. A great product! It’s heavy, doesn’t jam and the chain never comes off. I thought my first spreader, a Mill Creek, was good, but the ABI is far superior. I went from driving a sports car to driving luxury vehicle.

Kelley Jo Locke

So handy to have! I love our little manure spreader. It is just the right size for four mules who have paddocks and pasture access. I am plesed with the high quality material and craftsmanship and has not given us any problems. Bought it on a special financing offer so it is paying its way as it gets paid off. It sure helps keep our place clean and keeps the fly population at a minimum.

Jim Dunn

Quality made in America. This is by far one of the best built pieces of equipment for use in hobby ranching. This makes cleaning the barn a pleasure rather than the chore it used to be. Applying our barn waste to a piece of land that was eroded to bare sand has grass returning after just 3 applications over a year and a half. The spreader leaves a perfect even covering of material in every pass. The variable feed control lets you decide how thick you want to apply the material. Highly recommend this to others.

Bruce

I purchased the 25 GD Manure Spreader for our 15 cattle farm in 2016. The unit is well made and pulls easily behind my small 23 HP Kubota tractor. Had some trouble overloading the unit initially, but with right amount of Manure loaded it works great and really pulverizes the Manure. The grease fitting diagrams on the Spreader made it a lot easier to find the grease fittings locations. I would buy another or recommend it to a friend.

Scott Hagan

Have 3 horses wo produce a, seemingly, endless supply of manure. This little spreader is perfect. I can pull it with my UTV, or tractor, does a good job breaking up and distributing the waste. In true fashion, it is a top notch ABI product.

John Setzer

The Best Manure Spreader! I purchased the 25cf Manure Spreader from ABI after being very satisfied with the previous purchase of the Arena Rascal Pro drag. This spreader has performed perfectly in daily use for over half a year now. I took the fines pan and gate options, and am completely satisfied that I have the best spreader available in the size I needed. I compared this spreader with the similar-sized-and-equipped Millcreek, and am daily even more convinced that I made the best selection. The ABI spreader with the options I took provide a three step shredding/spreading process, while the Millcreek’s process was only a two step. The Millcreek was even slightly more expensive. I am confident that this ABI spreader will be functioning above my expectations for many years to come.

Wendi Damiani

Love my little spreader. Perfect for my 2 equines! I’ve had it for a year now and it’s trouble free. I pass Tractor Supply’s spreader on my way in to buy grain and marvel that anyone would spend their hard earned money on such a tin heap when ABI is on the market. Thank you!

Tonya McCarville

Love this product! It was money well spent for 10 acre property.

Bob Dunlap

Best spreader we have own. low maintenance, well built and excellent company to do business with. service department is always helpful

Frank Barefield

I bought this spreader a year ago. We have 2 horses on a 1.5 acre pasture. We want to keep it green and maximize grazing area so manure management is critical. We collect manure daily, compost it, and spread compost about every 4 months. The 25 has been great. It spreads the composted manure evenly and efficiently. The ground drive works perfectly. This spreader is well worth the money.

Lynda

Great Little Spreaders. We got our 25ft spreader this summer. It is exactly as advertised. …simple to use and spreads very efficiently. We couldn’t be more pleased. GREAT PRODUCT…GREAT PURCHASE!

JD Glesmann

Hindsight being 20/20 I should have purchased the 50 at least. The 25 is solidly built, easy to operate, and churns manure like a hydro mulcher on the front end of a skid steer. I’ve towed it behind my M5700 Kubota tractor, my son’s Dodge 3500 truck, and my Kubota RTV 500. Filled to capacity using any of the vehicle to pull the spreader, it churns the manure and slings it out in less than a minute. I can’t say enough good about it and won’t say anything bad. ABI makes some rock solid equipment and I will continue to do business with them.

Sheila Robins

This has been a great purchase, have used it a lot and works great. Thank You

Boyd Taylor

After reading a lot of reviews, I choose the ABI. When we unloaded it I knew it was a great spreader by its construction. Well after a year I decided to write the review. Simply put, Awesome. Advise, don’t by a spreader by its price tag, buy it for its quality and you want find a better built spreader than ABI.

Cat Markosky

Love it! just the best – easy to use – keep it greased – best customer service! sent a spring overnight no charge – great company!

Cynthia Brown

Best Spreader. I bought the 25 spreader and it was such a great investment! It is so easy to use and does an excellent job. A few minutes of spreading and I’m done! Makes manure control so easy!

Edna Riddell

This is a quality machine! It spreads very fine. My only regret is in not having equipment to pull a larger spreader. I would recommend this equipment to anyone looking for a spreader for a small operation.

Suanne

Love my ABI. Have had the 25 cu manure spreader for three years now and love it! We are on 5 acres with three adult horses and a yearling. It works great. It does need to get refilled often when spreading, which makes my husband wish I would have gotten a bigger one, but I like to use our 4 wheeler to pull it instead of a tractor.

Vicky Hearon

Quality equipment. I’ve been using the 25 spreader for several months now on a daily basis and couldn’t be happier with the quality of workmanship and how well this machine does its job. I recommend this to anyone who wants to to add a quality piece of equipment to their operation at a very reasonable price. I compared the others on the market and they were inferior to this piece of equipment yet their prices were higher. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made

Jim Stevens

This was a very good experience. The people at ABI give you that “Wow” experience as well as a quality product. They make sure the customer is supplied with all the information they need to make the purchase and then follow it up with impeccable service. The old saying, ” you get what you pay for.” Well worth investing the money in a quality product and a quality company that backs the product. Great job Casey and great job abi!!

Jim Dunn

I wanted to drop a line to say that my classic spreader arrived in perfect condition although I thought I would need the jaws of life to extricate it from the pallet. Apparently your shipping department is trying to keep pace with the high standards of quality as your manufacturing folks. I have 38 years manufacturing experience working with industrial equipment and I have to say your equipment is some of the best I have seen. Design, materials and construction are all top notch. In a world full of low quality imported crap it warmed my heart to see the superb American craftsmanship and pride in your equipment. After hours of fondling and admiring this show quality implement I was almost sad to use it for its intended purpose but after the first load was distributed I am super pleased with my purchase. Please let the folks at ABI know they have exceeded another customer’s expectations.

James Brumbelow

I have had my 25 bu. spreader for 5 years now. Originally purchased for four horses, but I am down to one now. In the 5 years I have NEVER had a problem with the spreader. To Laurie, who complained about getting it out of the crate and the fact that she could buy two other spreaders for what she paid for the ABI, I would say you probably would need to buy two. I had other spreaders and none compare in quality, functionality and service to ABI. I would buy again in a heart beat, but thanks to the quality, I will not have to do so.

Boyd Taylor

We have had our 25cf spreader for three years now. Not one single issue. Works great and we use it 3-4 times a week. Great company with people who will help in anyway needed. We are looking at upgrading to the 50cf to help with additional horses. Would not buy any other brand. This speader is built like a tank.Ê
